Regarding supplemental jury questionnaires, the First Judicial District Court strictly asks counsel to submit their supplemental jury questionnaire packets to the Jury Services Division no later than ten (10) weeks exactly prior to the scheduled jury selection date.

Supplemental jury questionnaires must be emailed to sfedjury@nmcourts.gov (Word format) with a signed order by the judge to include the number of jurors requested per session (if different from Approved Standardized Panel Sizes to Improve Utilization). This will allow the jury division to create a google form, which will be shared with parties 3 weeks before to the selection date.

If, in the random group of jurors you are working with, you have jurors who don’t have internet access, you must provide a mechanism for them to be a meaningful part of the process.

Supplemental jury questionnaire packets should include:

 (a) single-sided copies of the supplemental jury questionnaires approved by the Court (with one copy for each member of the jury pool)

 (b) large manila envelopes with pre-paid postage for distribution of the supplemental jury questionnaires to the jury pool

(c) blank Avery 5160 Labels to print juror’s information; and,

(d) the supplemental questionnaire packets must be inside the large manila envelopes when it is delivered to the Jury Service’s Office.  Please note:  the large manila envelope must NOT be sealed since the Jury Service’s need to add the Jury Division Cover sheet including return date and information.

In addition, the following timeline is enforced to ensure timely distribution and processing of supplemental jury questionnaires:

  • No later than ten (10) weeks exactly prior to the scheduled jury selection date, counsel will send their supplemental jury questionnaire packets to jury services and email Supplemental Questionnaire (word format) to sfedjury@nmcourts.gov.
  • No later than nine (9) weeks prior to the of jury selection date, jury services will send the supplemental jury questionnaire to the jury pool.
  • Responses from the jury pool are due within four (4) weeks from prior to the jury selection date.
  • No later than three (3) weeks prior to the jury selection date, jury services will provide completed supplemental jury questionnaires to counsel.
  • Approximately two (2) weeks prior to the jury selection date, the Court will hold a hearing to address any issues relating to the completed supplemental jury questionnaires.

As of August 1st, 2025, The New Mexico Supreme Court along with the AOC Jury and Witness Program have Approved Standardized Panel Sizes to Improve Utilization.

AOC recommends that for typical cases, based on NCSC guidance, and court feedback, that the number of jurors notified to report to court be limited to:

  • 25 for magistrate and metropolitan court or any 6-person jury.
  • 50 for district court.
  • Typical cases are those that are not highly publicized in the media or cases such as murder, sex crimes, crimes against children, or other such cases that may require a higher than normal number of jurors excused for cause.
  • Typical cases should account for an estimated 90% of the cases that go to
  • trial in NM.
  • (For Non-typical cases, the number of jurors is discretionary but must be approved by the District Chief Judge.)

Depending on the panel number of jurors scheduled for selection the Judge approves for the case, depends on how many jurors we electronically send/mail out Supplemental Questionnaires to.

Example: If the Judge approves a 50 juror panel, Jury Division recommends 15 Supplemental Questionnaire mail packets. If the Judge approves a 70 juror panel, Jury Division recommends 25 Supplemental Questionnaire mail packets. (This is subject to change depending on the juror information provided to the courts.)
